Hello friends (and all the other as well of course),
“Keep up to this good spirit” she says…
I will – allthough my beloved parents will have problems with this! But hey Mama: You can practice you english and translate it to Papa
So acutally I just do it for you!!!
Two weeks away and the time runs fast. But still we have a long way to go. Last weekend we went to Uruguay – isnt that exotic??? I think it is and from some e-mails I got I think it might be the same for you! So some facts which told me David (later more about him and I dont know if he told me the truth
): Uruguay is half the size of Germany and has about 3 Million habitantes. The half of them (1,5 Mio) live in Montevideo which is than about as big as Munich (I love Munich!) is. That are the facts. So it is acutally a pretty small country.
We went with the ferry from Bs.As. to Colonia which is a unesco world heritage (???). It was founded by the portugues (if I am not wrong) and is really small (25000), nice and quiet. It was the perfect trip after the noisy, stinky (
) Bs.As. The ferry left at 23.59 (THATS TRUE!!!) on friday and the 40 kms took us three hours. So we arrived at 3 am in the morning and walked to our hostel. We just slept there for about 6 hours and then called
David. David was the first person we couchsurfed with and it was so much fun. He picked us up from the city and we drove to his
small cute house with garden!
He cooked us a delicouse meal (hey Mama – wusstest du dass man die Stile und Blätter von Roter Beete essen kann?¿?¿ Man kann!) Then we went to the beach. The beach is not the beach form the atlantic ozean. It is the Rio de la Plata (SilverRiver). The water is brown from the sediments and its sweet water. So we walked there and enjoy the beautiful landscape and silence. Afterwards we went to a little museum -Tourns! Its acutally a huge garage with very very old stuff. Just seeing this things were not really interesting, but Walter and Nuri (the owners) showed us around and told us interesting stories about everything. And this was amazing. It just diffrent if you know that this machine was used to made waffels and they looked the same nearly a centuray (or A centuray) ago! Or the stones, bottels, tools, telephones, washingmachines, cars, tractor, etc… So much stuff which has a small story and life inbetween. That was just great. We spent a really good time there and were provided with food and drinks (selfmade likors *yammi*). Afterwards we went to a friend of David – Cesar, who is the son of Walter and Nuri! There we had some delicouse pizza and also a lot of fun.
The next day we went to the old city and the lighthouse and climbed that up. This was a hard procedure, because on Saturday me knee had started to hurt a lot
I couldnt really walk, but I wanted to get up that lighthouse and of course I did. It was very windy and cold, but the view was really nice and we enjoyed it a lot. Then we visited the museums, there are about 5 in Colonia and it takes you about 10 minutes to visit one
This was funny. Well, the getting in the car and out of the car was a hard job with my knee, but I managed it
We got very hungry buy the time and went “home” to make a parilla – barbecue and then relaxe in the garden
Eva had to get her stuff ready, because she had spanish lessons on monday in Bs.As. and had to leave
We droped her of and I had one more night in Colonia and the next morning David and I took the bus to MONTEVIDEO! Isnt it crayz¿ Going to Montevideo¿ I think it is! I never thought about it – is kind of exotic

The trip took us about 2.3 hours. When arriving it felt kind of similar to Bs.As. The buses, the streets, the noise! But Montevideo is a nice city. Its smaller than Bs.As. (which means by the way Buenos Aires for them who havent figured it out yet
) and there are carriages (horses). Osvaldo, my next cs-host (couchsurfing-host) told me, that these are the poorest people in Montevideo. What they do is searching the garbage for carton and other stuff they can sell.
I liked the idea of still using hores, but with that background its kind of sad. But thats of course a thing you can see generally here. The people have less money, live sometimes in really bad conditions or even if they live in good conditions they anyway dont have the possibilities we have! Travelling of a year is a thing impossible here. How fortunate we are!!!
Well, Montevideo is a nice city. You have a lot of colonial style houses which I like a lot. I spent my time there, walking around, watching the sunset and writing diary – nothing more. In summer it must be great just go to the beach and relax there. City and Sea has always been a great combination! Oh, and here, here in Montevideo you can smell the salt water, which I missed in Bs.As. (because there is no saltwater there!!!) The next day I had already to leave again, so in total it was a nice weekend trip. But the best part was definetly Colonia del Sacramento!
Back in Bs.As. I have a lot of freetime because I dont have spanisch classes anymore. I just go Tango dancing (WHY DIDNT I BRING MY SHOES???? Stupid ME!!), preparing dinner etc.
Saturday we go to a Milonga with our teac
hers (dancing Tango) and sunday is my birthday. I hope we can couchsurf again. I already wrote a nice woman!
The next plans are to go to Salto, which is also in Uruguay but more in the north. There are termal springs and as I am a big water fan and its my birthday we will do that – if it works out of course.
But that will only be on monday (27. april).
